Sunnyshore Studio’s five year Vintage Watercolorists of Washington project culminates in a big one-day event at the historic Floyd Hall in downtown Stanwood, WA called the Finale at the Floyd. We expect 1,000+ guest to enjoy this visual feast celebrating the lives and legacies of twenty legendary Washington Watercolorists. Here are all the things you can enjoy on Saturday, March 11th.

Doors Open, Saturday, March 11 at 10am

The Vintage show opens at 10:00am. Enjoy the gallery displaying a painting by each artist. This might be the best collection of Washington watercolor talent EVER SHOWN together at one time! You can also shop at our “pop up” store where you will find paintings, prints and books by vintage artists, resources on watercolor painting, and lots of other things to aid you in your creative journey.

Emerging Artist Watercolor Contest, 10am-Noon

Each year five vintage watercolorists collaborated to paint a map of Washington. These maps have been framed and will be displayed at the Floyd. But we have a fifth frame to fill. That’s where you come in!

Stanwood-Camano Art Advocacy Commission (SCAAC) is hosting an “emerging artist” station for youth and adults to try their hand at watercolor painting. Facilitated by watercolor artist Bobbie Samples, these emerging artists will finish their own version of the Washington State map. When they are finished these maps will be displayed and a “people’s choice” winner will be selected. The painting that wins the people’s choice award will be framed and presented at the reception at 3:00pm.

Coffee and Cake hosted by Dismas Smith, 10am-3pm

To celebrate the 83rd birthday of Jack Dorsey (he turns 83 on March 12), Dismas Smith, coffee aficionado extraordinaire, will be hosting a station where he will be serving his hand-roasted coffee with pour-overs. Try a perfectly crafted coffee to go with an assortment of different cakes that family and friends will be bringing to celebrate Jack. And buy a pound or two of his legendary coffee to take home!

Gallery showcasing the greatest watercolor paintings by Washington artists ever assembled, 10am-5pm

You will want to spend at least an hour in our Gallery to gaze in awe at the watercolors showcased there. Each artist will show one of their great works. I (Jason Dorsey) believe that it will be the greatest showcase of watercolors by Washington artists ever assembled. I know that it is hard to prove that. But I can certainly make that case. You will see watercolors (from left to right, top to bottom) by Nancy Axell, Jack Dorsey, John Ebner, Nancy Fulton, Cooper Hard, Thomas William Jones, Seiko Konya, Sandy Langford, William “Bill” Hook, John Ringen, Deanne Lemley, Jerry Stitt, Tony Turpin, Eric Wiegardt, Joan Reeves, Molly Murrah, Carla O’Connor, Joan Pinney, H. Rusty Platz, III, and Genny Rees!

Jack’s talk will be from 1:00-1:30pm and Deanne will be sharing from 1:30-2:00. Following the two talks, a panel of vintage artists will answer questions from their audience. Here is a great chance to pick the brains of some of Washington’s most legendary artists!
