Celebrating Jack Dorsey at 77: An Art Retrospective

Sunnyshore Studio announces the celebration of Jack Dorsey’s 77th birthday with an art retrospective looking back over Jack’s career as an artist. This retrospective will feature his artworks from over 50 years of painting including many new contributions.

Jack’s family invites his friends, patrons, golfing buddies and all art enthusiasts to join us in celebrating the life, career and artistic legacy of one of the northwest’s most gifted artists.

Jack Dorsey Art History

A short history of significant art events and people who influenced his art career.

1940 Born March 12 in Seattle, WA.

1953 Meets Grady Spurgeon, an artist and friend of the family

1955 Attends Redmond Junior High: serves on the annual staff and receives instruction in watercolor under art teacher, Mr. Goetschius


1956-1957  Attends Lake Washington High School where he is influenced by art teacher Mr. Greer

1957-58  Moves to Plain, WA and attends Leavenworth High School where he serves on the Annual staff; meets Walter Graham, Wenatchee artist; completes technical illustrations for the Merry Tiller Co.

1959  Sells first painting.

1960 – 1965  Attends Wenatchee Valley College and Seattle Pacific College where he paints and sells watercolors; works logging in the summers

1966   Graduates from SPC and marries Ann Dodgson

1966-1967  Teaches art at Highline High School; starts selling art at the Burien Arts Festival Gallery

1967-1968   Teaches art at Olympic Junior High

1968—1969   Serves as associate Pastor at Renton Bible Church; has success at art booth at the Bellevue Arts and Crafts Fair; in the fall moves to Camano and lives in the Helen Bates Thompson’s house in Sunnyshore Acres.

1970   Moves across the street into our current home in the Spring; embarks on a ten year journey as a full-time artist

1972   Has first one man show at the Frye Art Museum; is accepted into the Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS) annual exhibit and later becomes a member of NWWS achieving the honor of life membership after thirty years.

1979   Has second one man show at the Frye Art Museum; has one man show in Tokyo, Japan at the Franell Gallery.

1979—1980  Serves as President of the Northwest Watercolor Society

1981   Accepted into the Puget Sound Group of painters

1979 – 1995  Works as Technical Illustrator at Boeing.

1996—1997  Works as Illustrator for Superior Design a Boeing subcontractor

1997—1999   Starts home remodel/improvements

1999—2010   Joins the Stanwood/Camano Art Tour

2011—2014   Enters numerous national and regional shows and wins many awards

2016 to present—Exhibits with Sunnyshore Studio during the Mother’s Day Studio Tour and other Sunnyshore Studio sponsored shows. .

Merry Christmas from Sunnyshore Studio…

My dad, Jack Dorsey, paints a Christmas painting each year. Then dad and mom make Christmas cards from the paintings that they send out to family and friends from these paintings.

So it was super fun to “unveil” his Christmas Painting and Christmas Card for 2016 on Friday night at the private reception to celebrate the opening of Sunnyshore Studio. It is beautiful!


The painting has been sold. But the beautiful Christmas cards that were made from it are available in packs of 5 and packs of 10.
