In 2022, I will host my second Create Your Children’s Book in a Year class via Zoom. Our first class (2021) has been a joy. We have a great group of participants from the states of Washington, Indiana, Montana, Oregon and Texas! I am proud of how they moved their book projects forward. I can’t wait to see their finished product. As I start recruiting the 2022 Cohort, I want to answer some frequently asked questions.

What does the class cover?

The class covers twelve tried and true steps to write, illustrate and publish the children’s book you’ve dreamed of: Step One: Imagine Your Story, Step Two: Draft Your Story, Step Three: Ask for Help, Step Four: Finish Your Story, Step Five: Create a Storyboard, Step Six: Build Your Team, Step Seven: Illustrate Your Story, Step Eight: Design Your Story, Step Nine: Proof Your Story, Step Ten: Print Your Story, Step Eleven Promote Your Story, Step Twelve: Share Your Story. I call them “tried and true” steps because they are the steps I’ve had to take in my children’s book journey. I’ve made a lot of mistakes along the way and I want to help guide others to accomplish their dream of publishing a children’s book.

Who is the class for?

It is for anyone who wants to publish a children’s book. You may have just an idea, a concept, or you may be down the road in writing and illustrating it. Actually the class is helpful for anyone who wants to publish a book. I have one person in the 2021 cohort that is writing more of a devotional with 365 short thoughts, one for each day of the year. But it is geared towards people who want to make a children’s picture book.

When does the class meet?

We meet via Zoom on the first Monday of each month from 4:00-5:30 PST.

What do I get from the class?

I hope a lot of support, encouragement and guidance. You will get my unpublished book with the twelve steps titled Writing, Illustrating and Publishing Your Children’s Picture Book in a Year. I have specialists join our zoom calls. This year I’ve have five guests already: an author, an illustrator, a story-board creator, a graphic designer, and a print company rep. I expect to have even more next year. Besides this, I read every person’s story and provide feedback at least 1X. I also do my best to connect the participants to people who can help move their project forward. But the most important thing is encouragement. I want every participant to believe that their story is worth telling and that they can create the book they dream of. Cohort participants and super supportive of each other. They read each other’s stories and provide feedback. It is a very supportive and nurturing environment.

How much does it cost?

It only costs $120. That’s $10 per session.

How can I learn more?

I will host an hour long information session on Zoom on Monday, November 29, 4:00-5:00pm PST. This will be a chance to get to know me and my story of children’s book publishing, to earn about the year-long cohort that I’ll be leading starting in January, and to discover if this cohort might be a good fit for you to create the children’s picture book you’ve dreamed of. You’ll also get complementary copy of my book I Remember Fishing with Dad. It costs $20 and it is worth it for the book and to help discern if the class works for your needs. You can register here.
