I want my Stanwood-Camano friends, neighbors and community to the Stanwood-Camano Art Advocacy Commission’s (SCAAC) OPEN HOUSE. What began as a vision of the Camano Art Association (CAA) board in 2017 – to partner with local art organizations, artists, civic and educational institutions and the business community to make our region famous as an art destination in the Northwest – is coming true beyond our wildest dreams! As president of the board of SCAAC I want to personally invite you to an open house. We want to share the exciting things that are happening, which include a gift of a building for a future art center in Stanwood, and so much more.

Thursday, December 15, from 5:30-7:30

@ The Floyd, Stanwood

Besides SCAAC’s Executive Director Cat Olson and I sharing some of the past story and exciting future of SCAAC, here are some of the things you can do at the Open House.

Meet Local Artists who painted historic artifacts and view their artwork

12 artists (including my Dad, Jack Dorsey!) were commissioned to create artwork based on artifacts from the Stanwood Area Historical Society Legacy Collection. 8 of the artists will be at the event to talk about their work. This unique collaboration brings new life to old objects, enticing one to view history in a new light – and medium. Local photographer and SCAAC board member, Judy Fernandes, designed a postcard for each artwork. A perfect stocking stuffer, this pack of 12 postcards is a handheld art exhibit. Sales from these cards will benefit the Stanwood Area Historical Society.

Unveiling of the Design for the Mobile Art Center (Mac)

The MAC will provide an interactive space for artists, art lovers and curious community members to view, create and appreciate art of all kinds. Built Design in Everett, WA has designed an incredibly efficient, completely transformable space; with the shifting of a few elements, the space can convert from gallery to classroom to gift shop. And we’ll be announcing the local artist that is creating the exterior artwork. We’re excited to get this (art) show on the road. You can also learn about ways to support the MAC project including business partnerships (we’ll place your logo on the back of the MAC for all to see!) and individual contributions (there will be a Giving Wall in the MAC for your to leave as lasting legacy).

Enjoy Community

SCAAC’s dream is for art to build, bridge and weave community through art. This Kick-Off event will be a rich time of community. We want to pack the Floyd with people to celebrate a dream that is coming true, to invite people to share with us in making that dream happen, and to just enjoy the rich diversity of people that make Stanwood-Camano so great.  There will be something for the whole family! We’ll have plenty of food & drinks (thank you, Tapped Camano!) and a kids art area where young artists can get creative.

I hope that many of my Stanwood-Camano will block this evening out on your calendar and join us. Bring your family, friends, and others you think would like to be part of this celebration. Thanks for all each of you do to nurture art, culture and community in the Stanwood-Camano region.

And if you can’t join us that evening, but want to make a donation to what we are doing, you can do that on the

DONATE page on our website: scaacwa.org

Grace,

Jason Dorsey
