In August 2021, Jenny and our son Julian and daughter Jackie joined Jenny’s sister, Tina, and her husband Randy and sons Joey, Manny and John Paul on a trip to Devil’s Punch Bowl. According to Wikipedia, “Devils Punch Bowl State Natural Area is a state day use park on the central Oregon Coast in the United States. It is centered on a large bowl naturally carved in a rock headland which is partially open to the Pacific Ocean. Waves enter the bowl and often violently churn, swirl, and foam.”

We climbed across wet rocks to make it into the bowl.

We climbed across wet rocks to make our way into the bowl. The tide was out so it was safe to be in there. We got some good pictures. Here’s one of Randy and Tina.

This photo shows the water coming through a gap in the bowl.

The surging and swirling waters were impressive. Here’s a video that I took and posted on Facebook.

On the way back, John Paul took a dip.

It was a special day trip. In my painting I tried to capture the vibrant darks of the cliffs that make the bowl, the swirling waters, and the sun striking rocks in the foreground and through the hole in the wall. The reds and greens, oranges and blues are complementary colors, giving the painting a lot of pop.
