I’ve been working on a big creative project that I call the Bridges of Redmond. It includes 365 paintings of the Sammamish River and River Trail. At the end of this post I share the YouTube video of my January paintings.
I’m often asked what is my process of doing these paintings. People wonder if I’m painting them plein air, on the scene. A few I’ve painted that way. But most go something like this. I’m walking on the River Trail and a scene, an impression, a moment captures my attention. I photograph it. Later I paint it at my mini-studio in Redmond. Here’s an example.
On January 26 I took my dog Brody to Marymoor Dog Park. It was clear. The sun was coming up and make the frosty ground and trees sparkle. The low sun cast long shadows that are great for artists. I took a bunch of photos. Here are a few of those.

Two paintings from this day at Marymoor made it into my January collection. They had to push out other paintings because I thought that my January collection was set. But I just had to paint some of the scenes I saw this day. Here are those two paintings.

Anyway, here is the entire January collection. I’ll be rolling out each month, one month at a time.
