History of SCAAC

In 2017, the Camano Art Association (CAA) launched an initiative led by board president Jason Dorsey to gather Stanwood-Camano art organizations, civic and educational institutions, and businesses to partner to promote our region as the premier art destination in the Pacific Northwest. This grassroots group began to meet monthly. A major gift of a building (the old Hardware store in Stanwood) and money (3 million dollars for a new art center, 2 million for operating expenses) propelled us forward. We organized as a 501c3, hired an Executive Director and we were off to the races. You can read more of this history here:

In 2024 SCAAC launched a capital campaign to raise 12 million dollars to build the new art center. We have raised 6 million, so we are half way there. The first part of this campaign is more quiet, as we seek major donors who are excited to partner with us in our vision to build community through art. We hope to break ground in 2025.
