They awaken happy memories and remind me of the good news of God’s love for the world in his gift of Jesus. We invite you to join us at the opening reception of our Christmas on Camano art show for a time of caroling by candlelight, Friday, November 29 (the day after Thanksgiving), 7:00-9:00pm. After you have finished your Black Friday shopping, help us welcome in the Christmas season. Christmas lights will be up, hot chocolate made, and, I’m super excited that will will be using for the first time Dad’s new book: Christmas Cards and Carols.
Here’s the story of how that book came to be.
Years ago I was collecting Christmas carols to sing at for Sunnyshore Studio’s annual Christmas on Camano art show. It dawned on me that instead of collecting a song list every year I should make a book that combines Christmas carols with the Christmas Cards that Dad paints each year. The creation of the book was a family project. Mom collected the digital photographs of the artwork. I wrote the introduction, sharing how over the years Dad and Mom created cards they sent to loved one. My son Judah chose the hymns. My son Jacob worked on the graphic design. We published it before Dad’s 84th birthday art show and we will be using it for the first time this opening.
The book includes the beautiful Lessons and Carols service that our church uses at our Christmas Eve service. That service weaves Scripture and songs to tell the story of God’s love for the world in sending his Son Jesus Christ. One of the favorite songs in that service is O Savior Rend the Heavens. In February 2022, I had the privilege to visit Bethlehem and sing carols at one of the possible sites where Christ was born. Here is the video I made of that day.
