Here’s what’s ahead in our 2017-2018 Artistic Season:

There and Back Again

Sunnyshore Studio is thrilled to be hosting the first solo show in his hometown. Born and raised on Camano Island, Jed is a full-time artist who lives in Indianapolis. His July show will feature fresh paintings. Jed has an outstanding sense of design, light and color. Art Collectors, friends of the arts, and people who appreciate the beauty of the Pacific Northwest won’t want to miss Jed’s show.

Queen of Montana Beach

Fanny Y. Cory, broke into the “man’s world” of illustration in New York City in the 1890’s, and by the age of twenty five was a prolific illustrator motivated by wanting to provide for her sister Agnes who was dying of tuberculosis. She illustrated numerous magazine covers – Century, Life, Scribners, Harper’s Bazaar, The Saturday Evening Post, and St. Nicholas – and over forty-five books. For over thirty years she illustrated two cartoon strips, “Sunnysayings” and “Little Miss Muffet” which was a rival to Little Orphan Annie and was featured by King Syndicate. Fanny felt her best work was the series of delightful watercolors of fairies that makes up her Fairy Alphabet.

She is the grandmother of Ann Cory Dorsey, and great-grandmother of Jason and Jed Dorsey and April Nelson. For the first time her incredible art and illustrations and cultural legacy will be on display.

The show “Queen of Montana Beach: the life and artistic legacy of Fanny Y. Cory” will include many of her original paintings, cartoons, and illustrated books, a documentary of her life, the release of her biography, and a song by the Day Brothers in tribute of her life. You won’t want to miss the art and story of one of the most gifted illustrators of the 20th century. She lived on Camano Island for over a decade, and died in her daughter’s home in Stanwood in 1972.

The opening for Queen of Montana Beach: the life and cultural legacy of Fanny Y. Cory is on Saturday, October 14th, from 10:00am-5:00pm.
